Lung Cancer

Case 46
NSCLC: An effective approach in a challenging case with a sarcomatous component

A 32-year-old female Romanian presents for an appointment in April 2022 that she previously made. The patient was diagnosed and in March 2022 treated for lung cancer in her home country. A good friend who lives in Switzerland and received successful treatment for lung cancer at our hospital, had suggested to seek our expertise for further treatment.

Prostate Cancer

Case 45
Prostate cancer: many decisions along the road

History

January 2009

At the age of 60 an engineer comes for a routine urological check-up for the first time. He has a very stressful job and never found the time for screenings before. However, as he just entered a new decade of his life, his wife was able to convince him to make time for the visit. He reports having lost five kilos within the last four month without keeping a diet. Otherwise, he feels fine: no dysuria, no urinary dysfunction, no sexual dysfunction.

Cervical Cancer

Case 44
Endometrial cancer: the armamentarium is evolving

History

December 2018

  • A 63-year-old social worker visits her gynaecologist due to postmenopausal metrorrhagias in the past six weeks. The gynaecological history up to now is inconspicuous.
  • General medical history: glaucoma and osteoarthrosis of the right knee.
  • Current status: 167 cm, 72 kg, Body-Mass-Index 25,8 kg/m2, blood pressure 125/85 mmHg, pulse 74 bpm, respiration rate 12/min, no abdominal pain.
  • The transvaginal ultrasound shows an endometrial thickness of > 13 mm and normal features of the adnexa. Therefore, a Pipelle de Cornier® sampling is performed swiftly. The results suggest a grade 2 endometrioid type endometrial cancer (EEC) that is oestrogen- and progesteron receptor negative with a p53-wild type status (p53wt).
  • Preoperative laboratory diagnostics that include a complete liver and kidney panel, reveal no pathological results.

Lung Cancer

Case 43
A stage IVa NSCLC case with Horner’s Syndrome and its management

History

In April 2021, a 64 year old accountant presents himself to our emergency room due to pain in his left arm. He also noticed that his eyes have recently started looking different. This alarmed him so much that he decided to come in right away. Upon closer inspection, he has a left-sided miosis, ptosis and enophthalmus, i. e. a Horner syndrome (figure 1). Furthermore, a supraclavicular swelling on the left is palpable. He does not complain of nausea or headache.
